After a few days of usage I feel that its an ok product with scope for improvement. I bought it for its HD capability and the time-lapse mode. The clicking sound in the audio is of the autofocus mechanism (typical of point & shoot cameras) which goes away if the focus is not changing. Day time performance is pretty good. The built in s/w (no installation needed) for viewing things on a pc is also good.

I do not normally write reviews, but this purchase really left a sour taste in my mouth.
Buyer beware applies to this unit.
Bottom-line, this unit has an issue with audio. Regardless of whether zooming with the optical zoom, or not, the unit records a "clicking sound". The zooming creates its own sound, which is distinct, and even worse.
No question, this unit should not be purchased unless you intend only to record HD Video, and do not care about the audio.

I pre-ordered this camcorder in April, 2010 and patiently waited for about 2 months for it's release. I was excited about its time lapse recording. The cost in April was $199. It is now $169, June 2010. A significant price drop in less than a month from its release. Since using this camcorder, I haven't had a chance to get satisfied digital picture yet. Nor have I had a chance to take good quality video. The focusing of this camcorder isn't working very well. Most of the time, I have slightly out-of-focus pictures. The video doesn't give sharp images either. It's lighting compensation is minimal. Similar to other reviewers, some video clips I took has missing audio. Especially for those video clips longer than 30 seconds. I reviewed the video clips on my computer and have not tried another computer.
Pros:
Small, slick design. Looks great. Easy to carry. And, of course, time lapse recording. Uses an SD card for storage. It's a popular memory card. (Note: This camera doesn't come with an SD card.) One button video upload to a popular video sharing web site. (I haven't tried this function yet.) Embedded USB connector that connects this camera directly to a computer and recharge this camera. This is a great feature!
Cons:
Picture quality not good. This is probably because of the cellular phone style optic. It really needs a lot of improvement. Video clips doesn't show very good quality either. Missing audio in video clips.

Picked this camera up today. I was really excited about it because it seemed so slick and I was gonna use it to record my daughter's birthday party, I tested it out to find right away there was something very wrong with the audio. Upon play back of the video, the audio would cut out and if the audio was working it sounded like an 8 mm camera, no doubt a problem with the servos or something. DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA. I've seen another review of a person who bought this camera and it had these same problems, he returned it and bought a new one, same problem. Plus it doesn't have a flash, so make sure if you are taking pictures to be outside in the daylight. Now I gotta find a new camera to record my baby's birthday. Samsung makes great stuff, but this one is an epic fail.
Half-Baked and Disappointing Product: My Review. June 4, 2010

OK, first of all I don't write reviews of products often, but I felt
that this Samsung HMX-U20 product was so bad that I needed to tell
others before they waste their time/money. I was excited to get it,
but from the moment I took it out of the box I could tell this wasn't
going to be good.
1. They couldn't even print the "OPTICAL 3X" label on the lens
straight. Oops, it's not printed straight. It's actually off by quite
a bit. Just poor quality assembly.
2. After I charged it up and shot some sample video, I went to upload
it to my computer using the software provided. Oops, it only works on a PC, not with a Mac.
3. Went to view the manual Samsung provides on a CD ROM. Oops, "File
is damaged and cannot be repaired."
4. Took out the SD card with the captured video and put it into my Mac
to view. Oops, there are A LOT of clicking noises and A LOT of noise
captured from the lens zooming and focusing.
5. They include a setting to mute the audio recording while the lens
is zooming. Oops, it leaves blank audio whenever I'm zooming.
6. Samsung claims that it's recording at full HD quality. Oops, it
seems to be simply expanding a lower quality video mode.
7. Shot more video to test. Oops, the quality is so poor in anything
but bright outdoor light that it's ridiculous. Anything shot indoors
has way too much noise in the video.
The form factor is awesome, and this really is a nice-looking device
with lots of potential, but it simply doesn't work.
It's already being returned today. Too bad Samsung had to rush this
out to the market without ensuring that it was a quality product.
