Exactly what I wanted! August 20, 2010 Daniel B. Asher (Reston) I was looking for a digital frame that was easy to use, that had "normal" picture dimensions (not 4x7 or some other odd dimension) and could store many pictures - and I found it in this frame. I like that it can turn itself on and off at a specified time (and you can still manually turn it on when you like). Plus, the frame can display photos from a flash drive so you can easily change picture-sets by changing to another flash drive. Also, that you can display pictures randomly or in order. Very nice.
A dream to use, and looks good to boot July 13, 2010 K. Brungraber (Bucks County, PA USA) My church uses this for slideshows on tables at events, so it's only used for 3-6 hours at a time max.
Pros:
-- Once you get familiar with the touch sensitive interface, it couldn't be easier to use.
-- The number of images is only limited by the space on the USB drive/SD card you use.
-- You really can mount it in any standard 8x10 frame, but provided frame (shown in the first Amazon picture) is very nice.
Cons:
-- It doesn't have the option of running on batteries.
Great for Grandma!!! June 12, 2010 Bob B (Denver area) We loaded it up with pix. rewrote the instructions to make it simpler for Grandma and shipped it off to her. Excellent gift.
Nice way to present favorite photos without 'overdoing it' January 1, 2010 rosanna (Minnesota) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I received this as a wedding gift this month. Before I had no interest in a digital frame (I didn't register for this gift). Within a couple weeks my view has changed. This is a fun 'toy' to show off all your photos without having a table full of frames. It's just a simple design that does a good job showing the details/colors of photos with the option to use your own frame to make sure this frame fits your room perfectly. And it's so easy to use. I literally take my SD card out of my camera and put it in the frame, click on the menu and 'select all', 'copy'. That's all there is to it.
One feature that was a 'WOW' moment is that I can set the frame to turn on and off at certain times of the day, so if I go out with friends and we come back to my place my frame will be on just in time so I don't have to fumble trying to turn it on in front of them, or run the entire time just to show it off.
The one downside to this frame, which is the reason it was given four stars, is that the frame does not come with a USB cord to plug into the computer to transfer without needing a memory card or flash drive. It's not so terrible using a flashdrive, it just takes that extra step to put photos on the flashdrive before connecting the flashdrive to the frame.
Nice product. Great gift. Can't wait to fill up the memory with memories!
Red color is orange January 1, 2010 Jogger 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought a Kodak D830 at a local retail store based on favorable reviews on the Internet. Primary features I liked were the changeable outer wood picture frame and the touch frame for adjusting the settings. Also, I figured that a Kodak product would be of higher quality than less known brands. Overall, the picture quality was very good, except for red colors.
I returned the digital frame a few days after buying it. Solid red colors displayed decidedly orangish, ranging from an orange tint to brilliant blaze orange. Think: orange Santa, orange Christmas stockings, orange poinsettias, etcetera. Even the word "Kodak" which should be red on the startup screen was orangish. My impression is that the D830 screen has too much color saturation, which cannot be changed by the user. The D830 has a brightness adjustment, but does not have a contrast or color saturation adjustment.
To see if the problem was only with my frame, I tested my photos at a store where a variety of frames were plugged in and operating. The Kodak D830 there had the same problem -- reds displayed orangish. Other brands of frames, and a different model of Kodak, displayed reds much more accurately. The D830 is a newer model, so maybe the red color problem is only with that model. I checked the Kodak website to see if there was a firmware update, and there was none.
After I returned the D830, I looked at other brands of digital frames and found one that displays reds much more accurately and the overall picture quality is comparable to the D830. For the same price as the 8" D830, my new frame has a 10" screen, and comes with extras the Kodak does not have: a USB cord, a remote control, a printed user manual (didn't have to download it from the Internet), and it has additional useful options in the menu settings (including contrast and color saturation).
Until the red color problem in the D830 is fixed, I do not recommend buying it. Maybe a future firmware update will fix the issue.
