Love this camcorder, the one dowside is the still picture mode quality is horrible. So you'll need to have a reg camera for still pictures.

I bought this camcorder 2 years ago as a Christmas gift for my wife. She uses it much more than I do! But I find it a very nice and compact camera which is very sufficient for everyday use. I use it used it mainly for video'ing birds in my back yard, and the long zoom range is great for that. But things get very pixelated at higher zooms. I mount the camera on a tripod and use the remote control to avoid hand shake. My wife had used it as a snap-shot camera and almost filled the HD with many photos. I find moving the vids from the HD to the computer a PITA.
I have one odd quirk in that department. When I connect the camera to the computer, I can watch what is on the HD. But when I try to transfer those vids to the comoputer, the software cannot find them on the camera! The camera shows the HD almost full, but the software says the HD is empty. I've tried this on 2 different computers with same results.
It is a good camera for normal use, perhaps advanced users could get more out of the camera and better results.

I bought this for vacations and for video taping our grandchildren, but recently I needed some professional still shots. I tried out the function and was amazed at the quality. The photos are sharp and clear for my craft books.
I'm very happy with the results of my finished books.

The zoom is incredible, it's fairly easy to use but it does a very poor job even in decent light levels. Daytime only use. Even with it's light turned on it won't focus or reproduce colors accurately. Would not recommend.

DO NOT BUY this camera. The MOD format is ridiculous, you will need to purchase a converter over the internet so expect to spend another $30 bucks or so and then it takes FOREVER to convert these files. Why JVC has decided to record in a MOD format is beyond any comprehension of mine. I am certainly not an idiot nor a computer geek but i do know that this is not worth a $20 purchase!!! I did not do the proper research and now i have wasted over $200+ for an inadequate product, dont fall for this one, they will probably change the format one day as there will be too many complaints to log. DO NOT BUY THIS OR ANY OTHER JVC VIDEO CAMERA!!!!! (WORD TO THE WISE)
