Product Description Go widescreen in styleAround the world, the name Canon means optical excellence, advanced image processing, and superb performance. And Canon digital video camcorders are no exception. The Elura family of camcorders offers a wide variety of advanced, yet easy-to-use features that make them perfect for capturing all of life's moments. The Eluras are the most affordable of Canon's Megapixel camcorders and give you both vivid video and brilliant digital photographs. They make it easy to share memories with family and friends. With the Elura 100, you get all the flexibility and versatility of the Elura line, plus an impressive optical and digital zoom range, Double Shot technology for great video and digital photos, new features like Smooth Zoom and Level Shot, plus features found on more expensive camcorders. You also get an easy-to-read menu system for simple operation. And an omni-selector joystick that lets you easily operate playback, focus, exposure and menu options with a single controller. All this - in a stylish, affordable, easy-to-carry camcorder.Widescreen HR RecordingCanon camcorders use the entire width of the image sensor to capture video in true 16:9 format. What difference does this make? It's simple. With more pixels captured, you get better image quality. Other camcorders force the wider picture into a smaller space on the sensor -- giving you a less true image, with fewer pixels and lower quality. With a Canon camcorder, your videos of your travels will let you relive great memories. In addition, the viewfinder on your Elura 100 will display the image in a letterbox view. From side to side and top to bottom, what you see is what you get. Or, you can view your widescreen shot in the Elura 100's large, 2.7" LCD screen. Either way, there isn't the guessing or extra work in looking at an image that's distorted like a fun house mirror. To make it even easier, a Widescreen Button lets you s

Canon Elura100 beat the heck outta my JVC GRD-90U March 6, 2010 Brian L. Dusel (Louisville,Kentucky) I purchased my Canon Elura 100 mini-dv camcorder in 2007.This little gem has been nothing less than a pleasure to own.I have used it at least weekly and not even one glitch. The controls are easy to use and the auto setting pretty much does it all for you,but you can adjust most everything manually if your a videophile.Indoor low light shooting isn't perfect, but a turning on a couple of lamps makes a huge difference. The only downfall is the battery life isn't the best,I get around 1 1/2 hours on a charge, the spare batteries are pretty cheap now so I have a few extras charged at all times.Unfortunately the location of the battery prohibits large capacity batteries. The "Canon Elura 100" is out of production but it can sometimes be found on the Internet Refurbished for a very good price.Canon usually does a very good job refurbishing their products.
I have to include this little rant.I once made the mistake of purchasing a JVC GRD-90U camcorder, just after the warranty ran out the camcorder started giving me the dreaded "Please Wait,Condensation Operation Paused".I contacted JVC and they were absolutely useless.Come to find out this JVC GRD-90U and many other JVC models were known to have this sensor defect. It is all over the Internet.JVC refused to recall these camcorders and haven't budged since. There were many fixes that people posted but none were permanent.I will NEVER even look at a JVC product again!
Nice camcorder February 4, 2010 Mac Dog Spec'd this out for my brother-in-law and he likes it. No complaints from him so good ratings.
Elura 100 "Remove Cassette" errror" December 14, 2009 Krishna Kattumadam (Saratoga, CA United States) This is the most unreliable camera I've ever owned. I've owned a Sony and a JVC but wanted to try out the DV format (both of my old ones were 8mm). The infamous "remove cassette" error is persistent after 2 yrs. I was told that I am among the lucky few to have used it that long. I don't want to make this up, yes I was "happy" for 2 yrs. But does 2 yrs equate to "Canon reliability". I am in the market for a camera whose manufacturer name does not start with a "C".
Flawless for my uses October 26, 2009 Me and my cousin are into skate sports and filming. I started early, handling my dad's Polaroid at age 4. I always loved making videos, and when I made a youtube account in the 5th grade, I continually made videos of my desktop, video games, etc. but no videos of myself due to how young I was. When I started getting close with my cousin, I realized he scootered good and that he wanted to make youtube videos, but he didn't know how to use cameras. I helped him and now, though he's not popular, I got him a total of over 1,000 video views through 3 videos. With my original youtube account now having accumulated over 200,000 views, I moved on to his because I preferred being the cameraman rather than the star. Now, i'm working on getting him sponsered so we needed to get better quality videos than my sister's point and shoot could handle. It turned out my uncle had this little Canon Elura 100 laying around, and I didn't use it at first because of my disliking the resolution the camcorder recorded onto SD cards, not wanting to use the Tape. I was SO wrong. This is the highest quality beginner's camcorder I have ever handled, and, I've handled things like Canon GL1s with Optika Baby Death Fisheyes........I am currently editing some footage I have recorded yesterday at the skatepark, and it was at a constant 60FPS, without any button presses or settings to fiddle with. It does have manual white balance which is good, but I overlooked it at first because it was the last one on the selection of lighting sets. We added a Sunpak PlatinumPlus 0.5x Wide Angle lens, and now it's set. The 27mm filter threads are very useful, and with stepdown rings that are needed because 27mm is very uncommon, you don't see the edges of the lens that you would see with bigger-lens camcorders. The quality is astounding, and the steadyshot is just outright awesome. I sat on a 6' spine and recorded for about 30 minutes. If you want to see it, check out mrboy94 on youtube. I'll upload the footage very soon!

Owned this camera for over 2 years now... May 22, 2009 A. Streiff (Minnesota) I purchased it for a family vacation to Disney World for Christmas in 2007. I wanted something that was small enough to fit inside a handbag or backpack, with exceptional quality in taking video as well. This camcorder was it.
I found that the layout of the buttons make this camera easy to work using just one hand. And it's very user friendly in every way.
I also enjoy the ability to take video in both regular and wide screen. With flat screen TV's all wide screen now, home videos from this camera look awesome when recorded on the wide screen setting, and yet if your making a video for someone you know has a regular square TV set, you can still create videos in the regular setting for them as well.
On our trip to Disney, one of the most colorful videos ended up being one we took at night. It was a beautiful parade of lights and characters and it turned out stunning when taken with this camcorder.
This camcorder may be compact, but don't let that fool you, it takes great video!
