Product Description CyberHome LDV-9000 Progressive Scan Portable DVD Player with 9.2-Inch Screen
Amazon.com Enjoy your favorite DVD anytime, anywhere with the CyberHome LDV-9000 portable DVD player. Ideal for entertaining the kids on long road trips or killing time on the plane, the LDV-9000 is outfitted with a super-slim 9.2-inch active matrix LCD screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, so you can watch motion pictures in their full widescreen glory (it also switches to 4:3 for "full screen" films). The unit is no slouch from a playback perspective, either, with support for DVD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD, SVCD, VCD, and CD-R/RW discs and MP3, MPEG-2, and JPEG audio and video formats. And thanks to the 2.5-hour battery life, you can rest assured that you'll make it through all but the longest movies. Perhaps the unit's most compelling feature, however, is its progressive scan output, which stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, progressive scanning creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Plus, the LDV-9000 performs 3:2 pulldown detection, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movies in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frame-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. Audio-wise, viewers can enjoy immersive 360-degree sound by hooking up a pair of CyberHome HPS-10 six-speaker surround headphones to the LDV-9000's dual headphone jacks (the jacks also work with traditional stereo headphones). As an alternative, the unit also offers a coaxial digital output for connecting to home theater receivers and other digital audio devices. All this in a high-impact aluminum/plastic case that measures a mere 10.51 by 1.06 by 7.09 inches (W x H x D) when closed. The LDV-9000, which also includes component, S-video, and composite inputs for easy hookup to a full-size TV, comes with a multifunction remote control and is backed by a one-year parts warranty (90 days labor). What's in the Box LDV-9000 portable DVD player, remote control, rechargeable battery, user's manual.

| Customer Reviews: I use it for workout DVD's and travel as well as for pleasure. March 8, 2008 Brenda Coombs (St. Albans, VT) I like having the remote with this DVD player. I use it for workout DVD's so it is closer to me where I need it to be. I use it for meditation DVD's in a quiet place without other distractions. It's a great little machine with a big screen and a remote.
Be wary: low-resolution LCD (400x240) May 12, 2006 Amanda (Austin, TX) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I purchased this unit from Fry's for 149.99, and will be returning it in the morning. The manufacturer's specifications indicate it has Component (YPbPr) progressive output, but does not include the necessary cable to make that connection possible.
Most horribly, the LCD is specified as having 800x480 resolution, which is a 15:9 widescreen aspect ratio, but clearly, at a casual glance, it is not an 800x480 resolution LCD. I painstakingly measured the vertical resolution using a magnifying glass and ruler as 240 pixels high. This explains the crummy video image: it's only a 400x240 pixel screen. At 9 inches that's just horribly blocky. My unit also had one dead pixel in a prominent location near the center of the screen.
However, if you're looking for a budget-priced entry-level portable DVD player, and don't mind a low-resolution blocky display, this may be the unit for you. Just don't pay more than $150 for it.
Positives: Features out the wazoo for a low price.
Negatives: Lousy LCD.
