Referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, progressive scanning creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Plus, the LDV-9000 performs 3:2 pulldown detection, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movies in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frame-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture.

Audio-wise, viewers can enjoy immersive 360-degree sound by hooking up a pair of CyberHome HPS-10 six-speaker surround headphones to the LDV-9000's dual headphone jacks (the jacks also work with traditional stereo headphones). As an alternative, the unit also offers a coaxial digital output for connecting to home theater receivers and other digital audio devices.

All this in a high-impact aluminum/plastic case that measures a mere 10.51 by 1.06 by 7.09 inches (W x H x D) when closed. The LDV-9000, which also includes component, S-video, and composite inputs for easy hookup to a full-size TV, comes with a multifunction remote control and is backed by a one-year parts warranty (90 days labor).
