Sony's MV-65ST mobile DVD entertainment system offers DVD-R/-RW and MP3 CD playback alongside a choice of listening through stereo speakers or--if you want to listen to music while the kids enjoy a movie--dual headphone jacks (headphones not included). You can even listen through your vehicle's sound system using the MV-65ST's built in FM transmitter--just tune your radio to the appropriate frequency for instant audio. Apart from movies, this also lets you listen to your hours-long MP3 music compilations while you're on the road, even if your built-in stereo doesn't have so much as a cassette deck.

The MV-65ST's lightweight design (about 5 pounds) makes it a welcome travel partner. Its 6.5-inch widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) active-matrix TFT LCD renders vivid, high-contrast images in terrific detail, with native pixel resolution of 1,200 x 234. The screen pivots and the image flips for maximal placement flexibility, assisted by the supplied mounting cables. Suspend it between seats, fix it behind seats, or secure it directly on a seat, as between two back-seat passengers.

The MV-65ST includes standard audio and video outputs (composite-video, stereo analog RCA audio) for easy playback through compatible larger TVs, making it useful even when you're at home. A Toslink optical digital-audio output facilitates hookup with a full-featured audio/video receiver, passing Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround signals for enveloping sound through compatible multichannel speaker systems. (Home theater use aside, you can always set it in the kitchen to enjoy an old favorite while you prep dessert.) A compact remote control simplifies operation wherever you are.

The unit also features stereo AV input terminals let you connect stereo gaming units, camcorders, and other devices, which can pass their signals through to the built-in speakers or the stereo headphone jacks. Relive the vacation through your camcorder footage while you're driving home. AC/DC and vehicle power adapters are both included.
