Amazon.com Product Description For a compact, affordable digital camera that takes sharp pictures with enough detail for prints at sizes up to 8 by 10 inches, look no further than the Olympus D-370. Optics and Resolution This higher-resolution successor to the popular D-370 comes with a 2-megapixel sensor that captures enough detail for crisp 8-by-10-inch prints. For the typical family photographer, 2 megapixels is a great balance between price and performance. If you want a camera with even more resolution, you'll probably also want more manual controls than the D-380 offers--consider the Olympus C-3020 instead. The glass Olympus focus-free 4.5mm lens (equivalent to 35mm in film cameras) has an aperture range of f4 to f8. The camera features a 5x digital telephoto zoom, but remember that digital zoom tends to reduce the sharpness and detail of your image, so it's best used sparingly. To compose your images, either use the traditional camera viewfinder or the 1.6-inch LCD display (which is also used to review the shots you've taken). Having both types of viewfinders offers the best of both worlds: if you're used to using a film camera or want to conserve battery life, use the viewfinder. If you want to see exactly the picture you'll be capturing, use the LCD display. More Features A sliding clamshell lens cover simultaneously protects the lens and provides a simple way to turn the camera on and off. While the D-370 is clearly designed for point-and-shooters and beginning photographers, there are several manual features for more adventurous photographers, including macro mode, adjustable white-balance settings, exposure compensation, and the ability to shoot black-and-white and sepia images. Power Power is provided by four AA batteries or two LB-01 disposable lithium batteries--a set of LB-01 batteries is included. These lithium packs are the size of two side-by-side AA batteries, and they have a surprisingly long lifespan. However, they aren't rechargeable, so when they finally die, they go into the trash. If you use the camera once a month or less, the lithium batteries are a logical idea, since they'll hold their charge for years when sitting in an unused camera. If you use the camera more often, then the lithium packs don't make economic or environmental sense--we recommend getting a set or two of rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries and a charger. A digital camera will kill a set of alkaline batteries extremely quickly, especially if you're using the camera's LCD display, so they aren't recommended except in a pinch. To ensure you'll always be ready for action, we recommend having two sets of rechargeables so you can always have one set in the camera and the other set in the charger. Movie Mode In movie mode, the camera captures silent video clips up to 60 seconds in length. The limited duration and resolution of your movies guarantees that this feature won't replace your camcorder, but it's perfect for when you just want to capture a quick movie and e-mail it to a friend or relative. Storage and Transfer Images are stored on SmartMedia memory cards. The included 8 MB card holds approximately 16 images at the camera's default settings. SmartMedia cards are reusable, but if you tend to take more than 16 images per outing (or plan to use the video feature frequently), then you'll want a bigger card. A 64 MB card will store well over 100 pictures. To transfer images to your computer, simply attach the included USB cable between your PC and your camera. Your computer should automatically recognize your camera and let you move the pictures to your hard drive. Size At 4.8 by 2.6 by 1.8 inches and 6.7 ounces, the D-370 is slim and compact enough to bring along in a purse or pocket Contents and Recommended Accessories The package includes the camera, 8 MB SmartMedia card, two long-life LB-01 lithium batteries, USB cable, carrying strap, and software on CD. Everything you need to get started is included in the box, but we recommend these accessories to make the most of your camera: a carrying case, a set of NiMH rechargeable size AA batteries, and a higher-capacity SmartMedia memory card. Compatible accessories for this camera are listed near the top of this page. --Shane Burnett Pros: - Compact, lightweight, and easy to use
- Focus-free lens means fast startups and quick operation between shots
Cons: - Movie mode lacks sound
- 8 MB card and disposable batteries are fine for occasional users, but more frequent use will require upgrades to these accessories

Durable little sidekick July 21, 2009 Travis Molony I have used this camera for years and never had a problem. I think the key to its durability is its simplicity. It has a small lens tucked away in a depression behind a sliding door, instead of a fragile mechanical zoom extension. The display screen on the back is small and I believe also sits well back inside a bordered/rimmed cavity. Above all this camera's solid, no-nonsense construction amazes me. I have fallen off a skateboard while holding it, which only left a nice scare of shredded plastic on one of the corners. I have fallen off a bench while standing on it trying to get a picture [lanyard around wrist and everything] and the camera struck the wood bench like a weight on the end of a sling as my right arm impacted. I thought for sure the camera was destroyed, and I thought for sure my right arm was broken, but both camera and bone made it through intact. Though I was a little sore and bruised, the camera body was relatively undamaged. Besides mild resistance on the lens door's sliding action immediately after the accident, and separated plastic housing [you know, where the two face-plates snap together], the camera was fine and was easily snapped right back together. I thought it wouldn't work afterward but it's been over a year since that incident and it's still taking pictures.
Bottom line is this thing is a tank. Also note that I've used it to take photos of waterfalls while being sprayed with water, and left it out in the heat of a car for days/weeks on end. However, there are 3 things I don't like.
1: Button system is a little complicated. You cannot get the most out of this camera without reading all the button combos and functions in the manual.
2: Adequate picture quality. I believe this camera was fairly advanced back when it came out but nowadays there are a lot of cameras with better photo quality. The picture gets very grainy beyond about half zoom and pictures in general come out only as good as they need to be. Still, it's pretty good for a 2MP.
3: Very blurry and sensitive to motions during the snapshot. The camera has some feature where if you hold the shutter button down half way it better prepares for the photo and lags less, but there is still a noticeable degree of lag between pressing the button and the shutter actually opening. If you expect to get a good shot, your target must be stationary.
Achilles heal - weak battery compartment cover - renders camera useless January 28, 2007 T. Sullivan (Dallas, TX) Don't buy it. This was a good camera - loved it in fact - until I bumped it against a table as I turned to take a picture, and the battery compartment lid broke open. It wasn't a big bump either, a rather slight bump in fact, but must have hit the camera just right. The tiny plastic ridges that keep it closed snapped off, making it impossible to close, rendering the camera totally useless. If you can't close the battery compartment, you can't use the camera. I wrote Olympus twice over a year ago, but they never responded. Too bad, up until then I raved about Olympus. I since bought a Canon A620 and found it takes WAY better pics, has a ton more features, and has been very durable.
Great Camera For Everyone August 2, 2006 Renee (USA) My husband bought this camera for me about 3 years ago. I love it. I was always afraid of digital cameras, not sure how to use them. (I'm not so technical) However, this is so easy to use, it is a big recomend for beginers.
I recomend it even more because the picture quality is fantastic. No one can believe the pictures I print out are from a 2mp camera. They look just like regular photos. I print them and send them to my whole family.
We have dropped it several times and this last time did it in. I do not fault the camera at all. We have been totally rough on it.
I really can't say enough good things about this camera and I am very upset I have to search for a new one. But I figured I might as well upgrade since I have to buy one. Though I am tempted to just rebuy this same model.
I LOOOVE THIS CAMERA! December 27, 2005 J. M. (Lakeland, FL USA) This was my first digital camera I got back in 2003. I still use it, and I still love it! The picture quality is really really good. I have dropped it dozens of time, even on concrete! It still works perfectly fine! It's a tough little camera! It's bulky, but it takes great pictures. i still cant believe it's only a 2.0 megapixel, thats how good the picture look. Even in 640x480. Really good quality.
OLYMPUS CAMERA CORRECTION October 19, 2005 Below is the review:
I am giving this digital camera 4 stars. Its an excellent camera for 2 megapixels. The only thing that gets on my nerves is NO OPTICAL Zoom. Only digital zoom and that it uses the hard to find SMART MEDIA MEMORY CARD. Aside from this, for 2 megapixels, it takes excellent pictures. Most pictures I took came out excellent. Whatever pictures came out terrible were my own doing and not the camera. Does print clear pictures too. I would recommend this camera, except it only has digital zoom. Its the Optical zoom number you want to look for. But it may be fine for ebay usage. It wont matter much if you zoom in with the digital zoom for ebay. But I don't recommend using the digital zoom for important pictures such as of friends and family. Considering my dad has had this camera since either 2000 or 2001 and it still works, I recommend it, except please remember its the OPTICAL ZOOM number you want to look for.
IT WAS IN 2002! I JUST FOUND THE RECEIPT. HE BOUGHT THIS CAMERA IN 2002. THANK YOU.
