| Customer Reviews: EXCELLENT DIGITAL CAMERA! April 28, 2008 Iron Man 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this when digital cameras where first starting to appear en masse and it was also a supplement to my newly bought Dell Inspiron laptop. It cost $500+ at Bestbuy in those days! This camera is pretty nifty for its size (although fairly large now compared to modern digital cameras). The C-700 was one of the first cameras to offer a high optical magnification (10x) hence the UZ designation for this camera for ULTRA ZOOM. Other cameras of those days were only in the 3x-4x range. Although only having a 2.1MP resolution, it took pretty sharp pictures. The lens was great--as expected of any Olympus camera. The controls were easy to familiarize but kinda cumbersome compared with today's standards. It did not have an image stabilization so shooting at the maximum focal range definitely requires a tripod. It also uses a SmartMedia card which was widely used with earlier Olympus digicams. This particular card was great, the only problems is that the maximum capacity you can find during those days were only 256MB, ample enough if you were shooting at the minimum picture quality but not more than enough if you're using it in SHQ mode or Super High Quality. A 1GB card of any format was unheard of during those days. It came with a Ni-MH batteries which actually lasted a long time. You can also use rechargeables but this camera drains power too much. The LCD screen is a tiny 1.5 inches with an acceptable resolution. Overall it was a great camera to have, fun to use and light enough to be carried around your neck or shoulders with the strap on. If you look on ebay, a lot of people are still bidding on this camera despite its age. As technology advances, so does your desire to cope with it, thats the reason why I parted with this camera for a more modern one. But I have no regrets as this camera served my purpose well.
