Amazon.com Product Description The Polaroid PhotoMax PDC640 FL digital camera makes digital photography easy and affordable while delivering outstanding image quality for crisp, professional-looking photographs. With point-and-shoot simplicity and all of the features normally associated with much more expensive cameras, the PDC640 FL has a 1.8-inch LCD monitor/viewfinder, built-in flash, and self-timer. It has memory storage capacity in 640 x 480 mode for 12 images in superfine quality, 24 images in high resolution, and 36 images in standard resolution. In 320 x 240 mode, the PDC640 FL will hold 96 images. As a valuable bonus, this kit also includes a FlashPath reader so you can easily transfer data from the SmartMedia card to your PC. Shaped like a floppy disk, the FlashPath works directly from your floppy disk drive, so there is no need for cumbersome power supplies or cables. The PDC640 FL's accompanying Creative Kit offers everything cyber shutterbugs need to take pictures and download them to the computer. It includes a 2 MB SmartMedia card, FlashPath reader, batteries, PC cable, TV cable, AC adapter, camera case, wrist strap, camera and software instruction manuals, quick-start card, and an online tutorial.

Rule of thumb to learning how to use anything well, "Read the directions" August 17, 2006 p'La jarvinen (USA) Personally owning this camera for over 5 yrs, I would recommend it for everything, starting with beginner usage to small internet business work. Professional photographers will not brag about the photo quality because they generally spend alot more for that, but this camera offers up very clear resolution and color quality if you read the directions fully and familiarize yourself with the functions of its features. The software is an easyload cd, which the directions clearly identify how to load onto any computer. If you do not have a 95/98 Windows program installed on your computer, the Polaroid website offers easy backup support for adding it to XP and others. The Polaroid website also offers replacement software, serial cables etc.. Taking pictures, is a snap as long as your batteries are fully charged (especially during flash shots). The one con to the camera is the battery usage. A good recommendation, would be to also invest a small amount into the rechargeable camera batteries and use the ac adaptor chord when working with internet auction type photos. The Flashpath adaptor is an excellent plus feature, but there again familiarize yourself with the directions. Its batteries are much stronger and will last a very long time, however if the user begins to have difficulty uploading photos from the flashpath, the disc batteries should probably be replaced, and are easily found in the camera or watch dept of any store. With a little patience and the initiative to read the complete directions, the owner of this camera will get a lot of very happy smiling photos, for many years.
Made me want to rip my hair out March 16, 2002 Shar (Somewhere over there...) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ok, the camera takes great pictures. However, they're absolutely useless because the software that comes with the camera is terrible. Now I have a load of pictures that are just stuck in my camera. I cannot get them to come up on the PC no matter what I do, and I can't seem to figure out why. If you use anything other than windows 95, the Photomax software won't even work. Buying this camera was probably the biggest waste of money I've ever done.
its nice but January 30, 2002 robert hernandez (ct) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
very nice camera, but dont try to take pictures and expect to look good enlarged to to the 640x680 pics, also had a problems with shuting off and uploading images, seems to be problems with this camera. other than that not bad for the price.
Polaroid PhotoMax PDC-640 FL Kit is a GREAT VALUE! November 30, 2001 Catherine Mungall (Louisiana, USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a lot of camera for small bucks! If I had an internet business or was a professional photographer, I would go for more camera, but for family fun, hobby photos, sharing with friends and first cameras for beginners, this is just a super little camera. It is easy to use and a very complete kit. Since the flashpath floppy adaptor is included, that in itself is a great value (...). It is also lightweight and compact which makes it a perfect traveling camera.
This does EXACTLY what I wanted and needed it to do! October 19, 2001 Jackie R. (Micke)Jinks (Arlington, TX United States) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
First off, I'm not a 'literate' computer nerd...just a learner. And I couldn't be more happy with my selection of this digital camera. Have been wanting one for over a year when I found this. The price is *right*, and I am able to understand all the instructions...the best part. I just want to take pictures that I can use for e-mailing, web-sites, my P.C. photo albums. I want a camera that I can 'erase/delete' my photo flubs; view them immediately. This is perfect for that. I took pictures at the 36-shot-setting, and every picture came out very nice: both indoors and outdoors, day and night. I have MS 98SE, and I found using the 'film' SmartMedia Memory Card very easy to use in the FlashPath Floppy Disk Adapter...this brings the photos directly to your PhotoMax Image Maker...and gives you the capability of retouching or adding special effects to your photos. Yes, you can even type in the 'event and date' on each photo, or set the date/time on the camera. Polaroid does suggest that you have at least 16MB RAM (32 MB recomended) Just starting out using a digital camera? IMHO you can't go wrong with this one!
