Rollei's Prego 140mm camera provides a powerful 38-140mm zoom lens, a full-feature flash with red-eye reduction, and several creative options. A reliable autofocus system delivers sharp pictures with point-and-shoot ease. The focus lock lets you focus on a part of the subject outside the center of the frame. Use fill-in flash to relieve contrasting shadow or for night shots. The preflash eliminates red-eye, and the autoflash ensures your pictures are exposed correctly indoors and outdoors. For photographic atmosphere, you can switch the flash off. Continuous shooting allows you to take pictures of moving subjects in rapid succession, while interval shooting captures sequences of movement at fixed intervals. The self-timer lets you put yourself in the picture. The camera includes an infrared remote control that can adjust the focus or trigger the shutter release. You can also create unusual effects by making several exposures on a single frame. Other creative features include portrait zoom, snapshot mode, fuzzy mode, data imprinting, and infinity lock.

Sharp photos! March 21, 2003

I recently purchased the Rollei Prego 140mm 35mm camera (in place of the Leica Z2X as my 1st option & at that time, out-of-stock) & was very satisfied with the sharp images it took. However, I found the viewfinder a bit too small, sometimes hard to find, & the casing, a bit "cheapy", which makes it really light to carry on the other hand. I guess, you can't have it all. For the sharp pictures the camera took, I can overlook the camera's not-so-important "inferior" features, although for the price you pay for it, you'd at least expect better craftmanship.

Very sharp lens, various exposure and flash modes. The shake warning indicator is very usefull, specialy at no-flash mode or long tele (above 90mm). I have tested this camera to take pictures in various lighting condition, outdoor and indoor. All resulting pictures are very sharp. Of course I use a tripod in some conditions. This is a good choice for a long zoom point and shoot camera. Sharp under the right conditions that a point and shoot is made for. Don't dream a miracle picture like professional slr can produce. It still a point and shoot camera. The only weakness of this camera is the rear cover. Although the front cover is made from metal, the rear cover is made from plastic, it look like cheap fragile material.

I purchased this Rollei about 18 months ago as a replacement for an Olympus Zoom that I had enjoyed for several years. After many rolls of film the camera was stolen on a recent vacation, and I was almost glad! The Scheider optics that the Rollei literature brags about did not translate into quality pictures. The contrast was low and flat, and the flash exposures were pitiful compared to the lost Olympus. The controls and settings were confusing and forced me to carry the manual for a long time in order to be sure I would know how to operate the camera and I never did master it. I have been a amatuer photographer for 30 years and own 2 Nikon FE bodies and an assortment of Nikon lenses. I understand the fundamentals of photography. The Olympus was purchased for my wife but I found myself using it quite a bit. It was much easier to use and the resulting photographs were better exposed and sharper than the Rollei Prego. One note to anyone that thinks that a long zoom is essential -- keep in mind that at long zoom ranges the lense is at it's slowest resulting more often than not in shots that are blurred because the camera cannot be held steady enough for the longer exposure. Consider a more moderate length zoom - 70 or maybe 80mm should be plenty without spending more for the opportunity of making unacceptable photos and consider the speed of the lense through the entire range of the zoom. One more thing -- check out the reviews for the Olympus line of cameras and if you can live without a zoom, consider the Yashica T4 Super, too! Goodluck.

I just bought this camera and I haven't had any problmens wiht it. Actually I used in daily basis and I do not have to worry about finding any spare parts. Basically " reliability "
