Print letter-sized documents, envelopes, postcards, labels, transparencies, and more. View larger. | No More Waiting for High-Quality Prints HP's exclusive Instant On technology allows the LaserJet P1006 to be up and running in no time. Thanks to this printer's PowerSave mode, your first page will be printed in less than 8.5 seconds--twice as fast as printers that don't use this time-saving technology. Subsequent pages are printed at up to 17 ppm using HP's high-quality spherical toner cartridges that produce high-resolution documents and images up to 1200 dpi. The Laserjet P1006 has plenty of on-board memory and processing power to get the job done. This printer uses a 266 MHz processor and 8 MB of memory to ensure high-performance results and reduce time spent waiting on prints. Long-Lasting Toner Cartridges Like most laser printers, you can expect a long life span from each and every toner cartridge which saves you money in the long run. The average life span of the P1006's toner cartridges is about 1,500 prints, and the printer's built-in cartridge intelligence will alert you when toner levels are getting low. Aside from having an exceptionally long life span, HP's innovative new spherical toner is much smaller than the traditional toner cartridge, which allows he P1006 to be much more compact than the average-sized laser printer. As a matter of fact, the P1006 is one of HP's smallest laser printers on the market. Print Using a Variety of Media Types The P1006 will print using a wide range of media types, including envelopes, letter-sized paper, postcards, labels, transparencies, and more. The 150-sheet input paper tray ensures that there will always be paper ready to go, and the 10-sheet priority input tray makes it easy to print when using special media. Reduced Impact on the Environment HP has designed the LaserJet P1006 with the environment in mind. This eco-friendly printer is engineered to use the smallest amount of power possible to get the job done and in turn has been named as an Energy Star qualified printer. This printer not only works to save on electricity costs, but it can also help save paper and toner as well. Its simple one-button print cancel feature allows a simple and quick way to cancel any print job before any paper/toner is wasted. The P1006 is compatible with both Windows (including Vista) and Macintosh. It measures 13.66 x 8.82 x 7.64 inches and weighs 10.3 pounds. It's backed by a 1-year limited warranty. What's in the Box HP LaserJet 1006 printer, introductory HP LaserJet print cartridge, Getting Started Guide, printer documentation, CD-ROM, support flyer, and power cord.

Hp P1006 Printer Review November 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just bought this printer but was aprehensive due to some of the customer feedback I had reviewed. I setup the printer to my Windows XP PC and started to print. I was particluarly concerned about three comments made in reviews that I had read:
1)The printer does not print very good at point 5 font - false 2)The printer makes noise when just turned on - false 3)The printer does not duplex - true
I tried to print a document at point 5 font and to my surprise it was very legible. The quality is very good whether at FasRes600 or FasRes1200.
The printer made virtually no noise when I started it up. I even turned it off then on again and detected very little noise.
The printer does not duplex automatically. However, if you set the prefernce to print on both side, the manual process is quite easy. You simple remove the paper and re-insert exactly as you remove it - no need to re-orientiate. I found this to be a big plus compared to the ink jet printers.
I tried printing a picture at FasRes1200 and I must say the picture was not sharp as I expected from a laser printer. With the exception of words in the picture, the image was quite grainy. But being a monchrome printer, that is not a major issue for me, I will print my pictures on the inkjet.
Cons: The paper tray is open and therefore exposed to dust - then again the open tray makes it easy to re-insert the paper for duplex printing.
Reliable and productive November 9, 2008 HP LaserJet P1006 Printer is an economical way to mono print for home and small office, esp. good for university/college students. It won't waste your time to wait until it's warming up and the 1st page to come. There is a problem when I am using the printer, that is when you print something duplex, you have to do it manually but the software supporting this feature sometimes go wrong. Except this, the printer is very good. It is reliable and productive.
Great Price November 9, 2008 Great Price on a very fast no problem printer. Cartidges are a little steep pricewise but at 1500 pages per cartridge still a good buy. Order Now
HP-Great Value, simple and easy October 25, 2008 Since I rated this five stars you know I like the printer. Truth is, it's an exceptional value--perfect for the small office or home/kids computer. It's fast, quiet, and with my XP operating system I was up and running within about fifteen minutes. (Being a guy, I did not read directions and I guess luck was with me!)
Within minutes I tried their two-sided printing feature: excellent. Since then, I've come to appreciate the extremely quick start-up, HP's "Instant-on" technology.
One hint I don't believe I've seen mentioned. The set-up discs from HP are known to toss in extras--marketing pop-ups, supplemental software widgets that have nothing to do with the original focus (printing) and who knows what else. Frustrating! At the HP website, you can download the bare-bones, most up-to-date P1006 driver and avoid loading your computer with their needless extras. I've made a habit of this with all new hardware--especially HP.
We have so many choices, I expect a lot. I think, at least this time, HP delivered.
Broken Machine; Sucky Customer Service October 24, 2008 I received the printer in great time. I waited a couple of days to hook it up. I didn't need instructions. The driver download was pretty fast. The printer wouldn't print. I went to the Web site and used the online chat feature to try to figure out the problem. First, I waited near an hour for a rep, then I was on the chat with them for about 4 hours. The printer still doesn't print. I thought it maybe needed a new USB cable, so I bought one. Nope, the USB port on the printer is bad. I communicated this to HP and they said they'd send me another printer but first they want to call me to get my credit card information (they want to be able to charge me in case I don't send the broken one back) but because they are somewhere in Asia I think, they called my work number at 9 pm and left a message in some language that I couldn't understand and didn't leave a call back number. Here I am a month later, and I still have to forward stuff to my office if I want to print it out. I subsequently sent HP another e-mail, but nothing so far. Good Grief!
